Gearbox tuning software by TuningBot is a family of TCU services for DSG and automatic gearboxes:
a performance-oriented TCU upgrade (gearbox tuning file), a DSG DTC Off solution for selected fault codes
and a dedicated Torque Limiter Removal module for high-power builds. All solutions are developed for professional tuners
and workshops, to be used where permitted by local law.
Gearbox Tuning Software – DSG & TCU Upgrade
Dual-clutch and modern automatic gearboxes use a dedicated Transmission Control Unit (TCU) to manage clutch control,
gear selection, torque handover and shift strategies. When the engine is tuned but the gearbox software remains stock,
internal torque limiters, conservative shift points and mismatched RPM limits can prevent the vehicle from delivering its full potential.
A properly engineered gearbox tuning software package aligns ECU and TCU behavior and restores consistency.
TuningBot provides calibrated solutions for DSG and related platforms across Audi, SEAT, Škoda, VW and others.
The gearbox file is read out with your usual tool and processed through the TuningBot workflow alongside the ECU file when needed.
For general background on dual-clutch systems you can refer to the article on
Direct-shift gearboxes (DSG).
Instead of isolated “switch hacks”, TuningBot focuses on complete TCU strategies: torque limits, shift scheduling,
launch routines and diagnostics are treated as a coherent package so that performance, drivability and gearbox protection
all remain under control.
What the gearbox tuning software service includes
In the core gearbox tuning software service, TuningBot engineers re-calibrate shift patterns and torque handling
inside the TCU. The aim is to match the gearbox behavior to the engine’s torque curve and to the requested driving style
(daily, fast road or track-day use) while keeping clutch protection and temperature control logic active.
Typical areas of intervention include:
- Synchronization of RPM limiter between ECU and TCU so the new limit is effective in all drive modes.
- Increase of shift speed and reduction of unnecessary upshifts or kick-downs in sportier profiles.
- Refinement of clutch pressure and slip targets for smoother but more decisive engagement.
- Adaptation of launch control routines to the actual grip and hardware configuration.
- Improved torque handover between engine and gearbox during transient conditions.
Once the file is submitted via the Upload page, our system associates the TCU
with the corresponding ECU strategy (when both are provided) and generates an optimized calibration combo.
Pricing and add-ons are listed on the Tuning & pricing page.
Benefits of professional gearbox tuning
With this gearbox tuning software, vehicles typically show:
- more consistent acceleration thanks to higher usable rev range and quicker gear changes;
- cleaner launch behavior tailored to the actual power level and tyres;
- reduced “hunting” between gears in part-load, especially on tuned engines;
- drivability closer to what customers expect from a performance-oriented setup.
The service is suitable for both diesel and petrol applications. As with ECU tuning, overall reliability depends on the mechanical
condition of the gearbox, correct maintenance and realistic torque targets for the specific platform.
Supported DSG & automatic platforms
Coverage includes a wide range of dual-clutch and automatic gearboxes commonly used across VAG and related brands.
Among the frequently handled families:
DQ200 · DQ250 · DQ380 · DQ381 · DQ500 · DQ511 · DL501 · AL551 · AL552 · VL381 · DL382 · ZF8 · DKG · 8TD · VGS2 · Aisin · 991 · Mitsubishi
DSG DTC Off service
The DSG DTC Off service targets specific diagnostic trouble codes inside the TCU calibration. It is intended for professional
workshops that have already diagnosed the vehicle and need a software solution to neutralize certain DSG-related DTCs in the gearbox file,
for example in track builds or special applications.
Supported TCU families for DSG DTC Off
Supported ECUs for DTC off include (non-exhaustive list):
- TEMIC DL501
- TEMIC DQ200 / DQ200G2 / DQ200G2PQ / DQ200MQB / DQ200PQ
- TEMIC DQ250C / DQ250E / DQ250F / DQ250MQB
- TEMIC DQ381
- TEMIC DQ500 / DQ500MQB
When ordering this service, include in the notes which DTCs must be removed and any relevant information about the vehicle,
hardware changes and previous interventions. Non-related diagnostics are kept active so that the gearbox can still report
genuine issues outside the requested scope.
DSG Torque Limiter Removal service
Many modern gearboxes integrate an internal torque limiter inside the TCU logic. Even after a full engine remap,
the car may feel restricted because the gearbox software clips the requested torque to its stock ceiling. This is common on high-output
diesel and petrol platforms where ECU torque requests significantly exceed OEM gearbox targets.
With the Torque Limiter Removal module, TuningBot adjusts these limits so that:
- the gearbox no longer artificially caps torque at stock levels;
- torque requests from the ECU can be delivered within the safe mechanical envelope of the gearbox;
- clutch protection and temperature-based safeguards remain consistent with the new targets.
This service is particularly useful when combining bigger turbos, uprated fuel systems or built engines with OEM or lightly upgraded
gearboxes, provided that clutch packs and cooling are dimensioned accordingly.

Usage, compliance and ECU/TCU coverage
These gearbox-related services are intended for off-road, motorsport or export applications unless your jurisdiction explicitly allows
such modifications on public roads. Always verify the local legal framework before using a vehicle with modified ECU/TCU software
on public roads.
To check broader ECU and TCU coverage across brands and platforms, visit the
ECU Service Coverage page. If your software code is not listed, you can still
upload the original file via Tune Your File: new variants are added regularly based on
customer requests and in-house validation.
For day-to-day workflow, tuners simply read the gearbox file with their usual tool, submit it via the
Upload page and select the relevant options (gearbox tuning software, DSG DTC Off,
Torque Limiter Removal). TuningBot then processes the request and returns an optimized calibration ready to flash.
