Launch Control — RPM Limiter Activation for Optimal Acceleration
Launch control is a professional ECU calibration feature that optimizes acceleration from a standing start by managing engine speed and torque delivery.
When activated, the ECU holds a pre-defined RPM limit (typically between 2500–2750 RPM) while the vehicle is stationary and the clutch or brake is engaged.
As soon as the car begins to move—usually between 4–6 km/h—the RPM limiter is seamlessly released, allowing full power delivery to the wheels for maximum traction and performance.
How launch control works
In standard operation, the ECU calculates available torque based on throttle input, traction, and wheel speed.
The launch control logic temporarily overrides normal throttle and torque requests, fixing the engine speed at a defined value to prevent wheel spin during launch.
This balance between RPM and traction allows the driver to apply full throttle without losing grip.
Once wheel speed exceeds the preset threshold, the limiter disengages automatically and the ECU returns to its normal torque model.
Integration and calibration
Our engineers integrate launch control directly into the ECU software.
The activation method depends on platform—clutch-pedal detection, brake switch, or vehicle speed threshold.
The feature can be tailored for both manual and automatic/DSG transmissions, adjusting parameters such as hold RPM, slip allowance, and torque reduction curve.
Every calibration is bench-validated and dyno-tested to ensure smooth engagement and consistent acceleration under real-world conditions.
When launch control is recommended
- For vehicles used in motorsport or drag racing where maximum traction at launch is essential.
- When performing performance upgrades (turbo, intake, clutch) that increase engine torque and make manual control harder.
- To achieve consistent starts in tuned vehicles with higher boost or torque output.
- For enthusiasts seeking professional ECU-integrated launch management instead of aftermarket controllers.
Benefits and technical notes
– Enables faster, more consistent acceleration from standstill.
– Reduces wheel spin and drivetrain stress during launch.
– Improves 0–100 km/h times through controlled power delivery.
– Fully integrated into the ECU—no external devices required.
– Safe and repeatable activation on compatible vehicles.
Important: launch control is intended for off-road or motorsport use only, or where permitted by local regulations.
Always verify traction settings and drivetrain limits before use to prevent mechanical damage.
How to activate launch control (general procedure)
1. Engage the clutch (or hold the brake pedal for automatics).
2. Depress the accelerator fully—engine speed will stabilize at the programmed launch RPM.
3. Release the clutch or brake to initiate the launch.
4. Once the vehicle speed exceeds approximately 4–6 km/h, the ECU automatically returns to normal RPM control.
This simple yet powerful feature allows for optimal traction and repeatable performance on the track or test bench.
